Poker Hands in Order

The following are the hands you can make in a normal game of poker, assuming there are no wild cards in the particular type played.

A royal flush cannot be beat. It's the highest hand in poker. It has an Ace, a King, a Queen, a Jack and a 10 that are all the same suit.

Straight Flush
This hand has five cards, in sequential order, of the same suit. Aces can usually be counted as the lowest card in the order. For example… Ace, 2, 3, 4, and a 5 is a group of five ordered cards.

Four of a Kind
This is when you have four cards of the same value and one odd card. For example… 7, J, J, J, J.

This hand happens when you have five cards that all belong to the same suit. For example, a 4 of Diamonds, a 6 of Diamonds, 8 of Diamonds, Queen of Diamonds and Ace of Diamonds make a flush.

Straight
To get a straight, you need five cards in sequential order, but they don't have to be the same suit. For example… an Ace of Spades, 2 of Hearts, 3 of Diamonds, 4 of Clubs and 5 of Spades.

Three of a Kind
This is when you have to have three cards of the same face value and two odd cards. For example… a 6, 6, 6, Q and a 4.

Two Pair
Here, you need two cards of the same rank or value. Two pair happens when you have two pair plus one odd card. For example… K, K, 2, 2, and a 3.

One Pair
Two cards of the same rank along with 3 odd cards.

High Card
The highest valued single card in your hand, assuming you have none of the above hands.
